The Canadian economy works better when everyone has a real and fair chance at success. Our government introduced the new Canada Workers Benefit (CWB) – a strengthened, more generous and more accessible benefit to help low-income Canadians who are working hard to join the middle class.
CWB will allow low-income workers to take home more money while they work, encouraging more people to join and stay in the workforce, and offering real help to more than two million Canadians. Starting in 2019, the CWB will put more money in the pockets of nearly 2 million Canadian who are working hard to join the middle class. As a result, a Canadian worker earning $15,000 could receive almost $500 more in 2019 than they would have under the old Working Income Tax Benefit. With more money for the essentials, around 70,000 Canadians will be helped out of poverty.
Everyone who can benefit from the CWB will automatically receive it when they file their taxes. From this change alone, an estimated 300,000 additional low-income workers will benefit. From the Canada Child Benefit for families to the enhanced Guaranteed Income Supplement for seniors to the new Canada Workers Benefit, we are giving more support to those who need it most and making sure no one gets left behind.
