We believe in supporting Canada’s middle class and those working hard to join it. That’s why we created the Canada Child Benefit (CCB), to provide more generous, tax-free benefits to families who need it. The CCB flows funds to where they are needed most. Now we are going one step further and increasing the CCB to keep up with the cost of living in Canada, two years faster than we had planned. This means more money for families – up to $6,500 per child, per year under age 6 – and it means people won’t lose out if the cost of living rises.
This is making a huge impact for low and middle income families in the riding of Scarborough North. For families who are struggling to make ends meet, the CCB provides much needed, tax-free money every month to afford basic necessities. In the riding of Scarborough North, there were a total of 10,890 payments benefiting 18,840 children from June 2017 – July 2018. By increasing the CCB, we are helping to lift almost 300,000 children out of poverty across the country. Because we know that by investing in our children, we are investing in Canada’s future.
