Our seniors established the foundation for our city and continue to contribute to the community by offering their wisdom, friendship, and experience. As Canadians, we recognize the responsibility to give back to our seniors and ensure they have access to the support they need to lead fulfilling lives. After a lifetime of hard work, seniors deserve to enjoy a secure and dignified retirement.
Our government is undertaking a full suite of initiatives to improve the lives of seniors across the country. Under the leadership of our government, we have enhanced the Canadian Pension Plan (CPP) for the first time in 20 years, the most significant change in a generation. In addition to lowering the age of eligibility for Old Age Security (OAS) benefits from 67 to 65 and boosting the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) by nearly $1,000 a year, our government has committed $6 billion in funding for better home care, including palliative care.
We’re working hard to give Canadian seniors the support they need, and the secure and dignified retirement they deserve. These new changes and support mean more money in the pockets of seniors and closing gaps in our system to ensure every senior in Canada is cared for.
