Canada’s young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow, but the leaders of today.
Canada Summer Jobs is an initiative that provides secondary and post-secondary students quality work experiences. CSJ provides funding to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses to create summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students and intending to return to their studies in the next school year. Our government has created meaningful, paid work experience for almost 70,000 students per year.
This year, more than 3,000 employers are first-time funding recipients – that means thousands of fresh new experiences for young Canadians. The youth unemployment rate is down 2.3 percentage points over the past 2 years and we know these kinds of programs make a real difference in helping youth kick-start their careers.
On August 2nd, MP Shaun Chen hosted his annual graduation to congratulate and acknowledge the participating organizations and their students for successfully completing the Canada Summer Jobs Program. In Scarborough North, CSJ created 260 student positions and allocated over $848, 000 in funding for 51 organizations. In addition, 2018 represented a near record number of applications to the Canada Summer Jobs program. Congratulations once again to both the organizations and students for being part of this great initiative!
